Well it’s taken me 15 years but I finally got around to drawing my favorite picture of Sonic. He has to be hands down my favorite video game character. (Of course I mean the old SEGA Genesis games and not the weird new stuff) But I always wanted to draw this as a kid but was never good enough to get it right, my Dad drew the same picture on either my art-smock or my library bag back in first grade, I can’t quite remember which one it was though, but I remember feeling like such a bad-ass because I thought it was the best shit ever.

I really didn’t plan on doing anymore of this scene tonight but well, 5 AM and I can’t sleep, so nothing else to do but 3D! Now that I look at it, perhaps I’ll flatten the top of the wooden post, there’s really no need for it to round off like that.

Got a bit done today, probably won’t work on it anymore for the rest of the night. No idea what that purple section is caused by, something in Mudbox I guess. Anyway, finished sculpting the base terrain, I like it at the moment, might change it a bit as it comes along, not sure though. Looking forward to finishing the tree model and then sculpting it, I want to get a lot of detail into the bark and roots. Also can’t wait to sculpt all the rocks out properly.
Not looking forward to the grass though. Nor texturing, I never like that part, but I think that might be somewhat fun for this project. -
Base blocked out with blender and then painted on top of with different textures/blending and various adjustments in Photoshop.
I really need to get myself a tablet, mouse panting ftl -
WIP of the second scene in my miniature environment series.

So I’ve decided through this sleepless night that because I can’t get settled down on creating an actual scene, I’m just going to run through a bunch of little projects aiming at improving terrain modeling, texturing and lighting. As well as getting better at materials. First is something really basic and quick, small mountain covered in a thin layer of snow. This one is a bit rushed, further ones I’ll put more time into. (Notice the stretched or too small? UV on the peak >.>)
Next I think I’ll go for something with grass and a rocky trail of sorts, never been that good at getting good looking grass so this will give me a chance to get something good going.
Ideas for terrains and things I want to texture so far
- Burnt rock + Lava
- Something with a pond/lake- Something like a shoreline with cliffs, sand and water
- Forest scene something with hand modeled trees, overgrown perhaps -
Nothing much really, just trying to pass the night. Every time I think about starting something serious I can’t seem to keep myself focused on it. Been modeling random little things and painting on textures, here’s half a pillar with various lighting set ups on it, plus the solid.

74 Frame hue cycle waste of time. 4 AM, eyes are burning in their sockets, feeling like quite the insomniac lately. Fuckin’ anxiety.
For some reason Tumblr refuses to upload the original, murdering the number of colors fixed it, though here’s the original: http://s10.postimage.org/4k362homf/3215554.gif
Much better quality.
